Thievery

When we arrived at the house tonight there was still one guy hard at work.

He was installing the central vacuum lines for the house.  Since I love, love, love our vacuum, we aren't installing the vacuum unit, but we are running the pipes in case we (or someone else) wants to install it later.

But the BIG news is that we were visited by thieves sometime over the weekend.

That's right, thieves!  Apparently the price of copper is very high.

Ours isn't the first under-construction house in the neighborhood to have it's wires snipped.  We aren't sure when it happened, but we didn't notice anything amiss on Sunday, so it might have happened last night. We were hoping for the electrical inspection today, but when the guys arrived on site this morning, they realized that some of the electrical cables had been cut out, apparently to be sold for scrap.

All of the wires weren't taken, just the "whips" that were bundled up and sticking out of the walls like this.

Or like these wires...

They only took what they could reach and wires that weren't stapled to the studs; all of the ceiling wires were left intact.

So there wasn't an inspection today.

The electrician had to re-run some lines and hopefully it can be inspected tomorrow and then the insulation put in so the wires are protected (and hidden).

These kind of wires weren't taken, apparently they are low voltage, so they aren't worth the trouble to take them.

But the main lines, the yellow cables like these, are high voltage and theives love to take them.

Also, the house was cleaned up today.

It sure looks great when it all cleaned up.

The electrician also installed the can lights on the back deck when he came back for repairs today.

Several of our neighbors who are under construction have lost things like wires and furnaces...but we thought we were safe because our house is surrounded on all sides by completed homes with people residing in them...I guess we were wrong.
