A Busy, Busy Place

Early this morning the house was buzzing with activity.

We went over to decide where the doors should hinge and the direction each door should swing.  This was harder and much more important than it sounds.  After we walked through and made our decisions, we had to have the electrician move a couple of the light switches.

It was the first time I had seen the house with so much going on.  The framers, the electrician, the builders and about a half-dozen other people were all running around with power tools and electrical cords trailing behind.

It was a bit of an "enter at your own risk" situation.

That last little window is no longer sitting alone in the cold garage...they installed it today.

Check out the plank-bridge someone created off the balcony so they could walk across and install that little second story window.

The framers had to recess the lighting in this harvest room cubby, so they reframed and moved that light today.
Also, they framed the soffits for the top of the bookshelfs on each side of the fireplace.

The tubs were filled with water for some reason unbeknowst to me.

Shane is certain there is a reason other than a contractor simply wanting a mid-afternoon soak. ;-)

They worked on the staircase, but I'm not sure how to describe what they did, so I'll show you a before picture here:

...and this is what it looks like now:

Here's another picture; the spindles for the staircase banister will go into the curved wood instead of actually in the stair tread.

While we were there an inspector showed up. We know that the plumbing passed inspection, but when we left the electrician was still hard at work, I'm sure we'll have word on that Monday.

I guess the inspector didn't like the danger factor involved with the game-room-hole-in-the-floor.
Personally, I'm suprised that no one thought to put this railing around any sooner.

After all the excitement at the house, we went to look at a countertop option for the powder bath and then to the granite store.  Wow-the granite options are just amazing we have so many ideas to sort through now!
