As April said, we are mainly waiting on inspections at this point. As there are some people who read this blog that are in the process of building or will build, I thought I would share some tools I found for Tulsa so I don't bug our builders too much on things outside of their control.
In some of the first posts on this blog, I showed little charts showing our permit status. I found this from looking around the local city website. In our case, City of Tulsa Permits and Licensing, from there I found the 'Check the Status of your Building Permit' link. This site allows searching by address so during the initial permit phase-when you don't have a permit number you can look it up by the new address.
When you view your permits, each of the different disciplines in the house like electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc., will also start getting permits for work. These are called child permits and link to the main building permit.
Today I wanted to know with the little bit of thievery we had over the weekend where we stood on the electrical inspection. I did a little searching and I found this PDF (City of Tulsa Inspections). It's a way to call into an IVR and check the inspection status.
Now to check your inspection status via IVR you have to know the permit or child permit number and a 4 digit code (Press * to get valid codes for the permit type). Since I wanted electrical I didn't use our main permit number but the child permit number for the electrical. Now some may have multiple permits for different jobs the contractor does like plumbers-they have both gas and water. I just tried them until I got a result.
With all of this, I found out we passed electrical-rough on March 21st and plumbing-topouts on March 22nd. We thought we were in the clear to proceed, but it seems we have 1 more inspection left-framing.
It looks like framing will be completed tomorrow, then we can get insulation installed, then the Energy Star Inspection, then finally drywall will be started.
