Today was a very exciting day-and I'm not just talking about the National Weather Service warning that we heard on all the radio stations.
First of all, it's exciting to see a garage door down-you can get a feel for what the house will really look like...and because of the wonderful rain we are getting, if you stand near the garage doors, you can smell the rough cedar.
But it gets even better than garage doors.
The house got some love all the way from the top to the bottom...
As I walked into the garage, I saw that a delivery had been made. See the tall stack near the door? That's our kitchen tile.
This time tomorrow that kitchen tile will be on the kitchen floor.
I was happy with the tile sitting in boxes in the garage, so imagine just how thrilled I was when I walked into the house and saw this:
That's right, they are laying the wood floors! In this picture, you can see the wood, the underlayment & the subfloor. (This is looking into the hallway and laundry room.)
After all of the boards are installed, the guys will come back in and hand-scrape the floors. Hand scraping will hide scratches and any nicks that might be left in those beautiful floors if someone, say dropped a half-dozen heavy dinner plates.
Also, hopefully the rough floor will make it a little easier for Miss Minnie to get traction under her slippery little feet.
Here's a view from the front door looking into the living room.
I've been trying to upload a picture of what the floors will look like, but I'm having a bit of technical difficulty. I'll put figuring that out on my to-do list.
Oh, by the way-I wish you could smell the house. It's full of one of my favorite smells...sawdust. That's right, I love that smell...it must be from my high school days in wood shop. As soon as we move in, I'll fill it with my other favorite smell...buttercream frosting.
You're all welcome to join us for that.
In other news...tonight Shane & I went to the lighting store and picked out almost every light for the house. We had a super-great time & we picked out some fabulouse lights and it was all very easy and without incident.
Now, we just have to wait for the lighting designer to call us back and tell us exactly how much we are over budget. Just kidding. I think we did very well, we might just have to use candles in the mother-in-law suite.
That's okay with you guys, right?
