I left the house at about 4:30, we went back to see how things were looking at 8 o'clock. Silly me thought the bands would have been completed by now. I should have realized that these are the same people who said they'd have this finished before Memorial Day.
Clearly they are not the fastest of workers...
As you can see, only some of the forms have been applied to the house, but only the forms, and not all of the forms.
Oh geez.
And just look at all the tiny white litter in the beautiful black mulch of the flower beds...
I'd like to know who's going to be the one to pick all those white flecks out.
...and then we noticed these messy handprints on the side of the house...
I hope they find time to power wash it like they are planning to.
Shane & I are discussing putting an "oops" sticker on the kitchen backspash right before the judges walk in. I figure with all of the decisions we've made on this house, if we only end up with one goofy thing we need to change one day, then we've done a great job. Considering the rest of the house is exactly what we wanted and we wouldn't change a single thing...It's understandable that the backsplash has been a bit of a comedy of errors.
The whole thing began with my falling in love with these extra-large-white-snakeskin tiles. Shane promptly vetoed my using this for the backsplash but said we could use them as an accent in a bathroom, so we bought a box of three large tiles. Then we had a bathroom tile mix up and after reconsidering, he changed his mind and we ordered enough snakeskin to use as the backsplash...
Believe it or not, the snakeskin tile literally got stuck on a "slow boat from China," and wasn't going to arrive in time for the Parade, so Dana brought over some tiles that would work with the snakeskin pieces and Shane helped us design several pattern choices.
Next, Dana and I forgot which pattern we had all decided on and I told her the wrong one. Shane and I peeked through the window at it this evening and our initial impression is that the backsplash is a fail. I'm not sure that a different pattern would have helped and hindsight says that once the snakeskin was unavailable, we should have looked for another inspiration.
But hey, soon we are going to need another project, right? Maybe we'll take up tile work as a hobby.
At this point, you just have to laugh. Seriously, I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Really. I am amused.;-)
