Will it ever melt?

The house hasn't changed much lately, has it?

It's not our builder's fault. We've got Mother Nature to thank for that.

There are still piles of snow everywhere. Snow from blizzard #1 hadn't melted before the skies dumped 6 more inches on us, for a record total of 26.1 inches! (Fun Fact: this broke the snowfall record set in 1923.) Remember how I said it was almost 75 degrees here at the beginning of February? Well a couple of days ago it dropped to 11 degrees below zero. That's right; -11.

I guess those aren't optimum conditions for building a house? The snowfall seems to be finished but Tulsans are still dealing with the aftermath...

Our builders chose not to put the roof on before the snow because without the shingles, all of the snow would be sitting on untreated wood. We agreed that this was a great idea and it probably was.

But...without a roof, here's what the inside looks like now.
We're taking bets on how many days it takes for it to dry out.

Anyone?
We probably won't need anything to keep our wine chilled; the pile of snow in the wine room is up to Shane's pockets, 8 days after the first flake fell.
I think he needs some galoshes but he won't let me get him a pair.
The water was deep enough that it got inside the boots he's wearing. My feet stayed dry because I have galoshes.

I bet it was cold water.
Can you believe how much snow we still have in the backyard at the rent house?
At least our roof isn't leaking anymore.
Apparently, they only need 4 days of work to finish framing and getting the windows in. Rumor has it they'll try to work this week.

I'm not counting on it, unless they intend to shovel snow & mop water.

Oh well, surely Mother Nature will let them get back to building someday.

  1. What a mess! And how did I not know that you had this blog? This is going to be fun and educational reading for me as I look into this process myself. Note #1 - don't build during the biggest snowfall in 100 years...
